Inveraray Castle |
This is a famous castle for various reason, which includes still being the seat of the Duke of Argyll, chief of Clan Campbell but did you know...
.. that this is where they are filming Downton Abbey?
Inveraray Castle |
This is just the view from the car park, and the castle looks majestic and is one of the grandest castles we visited in Scotland.
Inveraray Castle |
This is a quick look at the other side of the castle, the side leading to the gardens and grounds.
Inveraray Castle |
And then..
Inveraray Castle |
my photographer thought...
Inveraray Castle |
it was hilarious to take loads of photos while I approached...
Inveraray Castle |
wondering what was going on!
Inveraray Castle |
We walked around parts of the ground, first exploring one part... and then another.
There were signs reminding us to keep off the grass.
Inveraray Castle |
So I made sure that I was never on the grass, just sometimes on the mud
Inveraray Castle |
The grounds were beautifully maintained, but it was the bits and pieces that grew more wild looking that really had my heart!
Inveraray Castle |
The actual gardens looked perfectly manicured and the paths had little strips on the edge to keep the pebbles on the path and off the grass/lawn.
Inveraray Castle |
If you like neat, this is it!
Inveraray Castle |
Inveraray Castle |
If you prefer a more rugged castle, this definitely is not it!
Inveraray Castle |
This actually overlooks the bridge which leads to the castle
Inveraray Castle |
and if it is particularly busy (which it sometimes is) you can hear the traffic while standing on one side of the castle.
Inveraray Castle |
However, there is no doubt that as you look at this castle, that it looks like one of those that were right out of Disney films and fairytales,
Inveraray Castle |
I mean, can we just look at it.
Inveraray Castle |
There really is no doubt as to why Downton Abbey decided that this was to be the home for Lord and Lady Grantham.
Inveraray Castle |
You can look inside the castle, and there is a charge to be in the grounds, but as you may be aware by now, I think it is worth the money!
Inveraray Castle |
This was actually a picture I took from my
instagram account, where I shared that this was my first time trying Haggis but it really did not make a pretty picture whereas Will's Salmon Bagel look absolutely delicious (and it tasted delicious, I tried it) and
then we finished off with we actually had teacakes before our meals. Cheeky.
